About Betacom The UK-based domestic telephone supplier Betacom started out as a company engaged in the importation of quality consumer electronic goods from the Far East which they then distributed throughout the United Kingdom. After the deregulation of the telecoms market in 1984, the company decided to focus entirely on telephones. In 1988 the company became a fully-listed corporation on the London Stock Exchange. By 1992, the firm was acquired by Amstrad PLC from Canon Street Investments PLC. This purchase enabled Amstrad to establish a foothold in the bourgeoning telecommunications market. A subsequent change of ownership would ensue in 1999 as another British corporation, Alba PLC, bought a controlling stake in Betacom. Currently, Betacom has been merged with another telco gadget maker called Answercall and the ensuing merger has further revitalized the portfolio of the Alba group of companies. Betacom offers mainly of affordable and reliable cordless telephones as well as standard ones. The company has operations in the following countries: UK, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, China and Hong Kong.
