Gigaset replaces lithium-ion batteries in the SL910 series
Product warning: The cell may overheat in rare cases
December 15, 2011 - Gigaset Communications GmbH is replacing the lithium-ion batteries in the handsets of its SL910 series (the Gigaset SL910, Gigaset SL910A and Gigaset SL910H) because the storage cells may overheat in very rare cases. As a manufacturer of quality products, Gigaset is taking this precautionary measure to rule out any safety risks due to the batteries, which all come from one supplier. Affected consumers are strongly urged to stop using the batteries in question right away and replace them with new ones.
The following batteries are affected:
Batteries from the Gigaset SL910 series (component number V30145-K1310X447) produced up to and including calendar week 38 in 2011. They are identifiable by the production date printed on them (e.g. “DATE: HY3811“). The first two digits after “HY” denote the calendar week in which they were produced. Batteries up to and including “DATE: HY3811” are therefore affected.
Batteries with a production date “DATE: HY3911” and later are in perfect working order.
Although the number of incidents connected to the lithium-ion batteries is extremely low, Gigaset has reported them to the relevant authorities because of the potential risk of fire from them. To rule out any hazard from batteries that may be faulty, all affected users are strongly urged to stop using the batteries in question.
The battery should be removed from the phone and disposed of properly. The handset may be used again only with a new battery that has a production date as of “DATE: HY3911” and later.
The cause has been cleared up and the new batteries are in perfect working order
Quality Management at Gigaset Communications GmbH has already cleared up the cause with the battery supplier and achieved a reliable solution. Gigaset will provide free replacement batteries at short notice.
Customers can find more details on the product warning and the exchange of the battery on the Internet at http://gigaset.com/uk/en/cms/PageSL910_battery.html. Alternatively customers can call our hotline on 0845 3670812 (local call charge) from Monday to Friday 9.00 - 18.00 and Saturday 09.00 - 17.00 to order replacement batteries or if they have any queries.
Gigaset regrets and apologizes to customers for any inconvenience as a result of this safety measure.
The problem, which occurs very sporadically and whose cause has been identified, relates solely to the lithium-ion batteries used in the Gigaset SL910 series. All other models in Gigaset’s broad-ranging product portfolio are not affected. The main production site in Bocholt, North Rhine-Westphalia, makes more than 15 million phones a year. A total of more than 160 million have already left the plant.
With this information, Gigaset Communications GmbH is fulfilling its statutory obligations and acting in the interests of its customers and to ensure maximum safety for them.
