After rave reviews on the HD 650, we were psyched to get our hands on the HD 600 headphones, another model from Sennheiser’s high definition audiophile line.  The HD 600s substitute the 650s’ shiny metallic housing with a stylish plastic finish in grey and black.  While they may not be as durable these headphones still provide tremendous bang for your buck with a low price and great performance.

Design and Features

The Sennheiser HD 600 comes with an open-back design, allowing you to jam in comfort without comprising too much sound.  Black metal mesh covers the drivers on the ear cups and keeps them protected when the clumsy in you stumbles out.  According to Sennheiser, the HD 600 uses computer-optimized neodymium magnets to reduce distortion and help deliver lightweight aluminum voice coils.  A 3m wire is attached to each ear cup, transmitting audio to the driver and to you through a 3.5 mm mini jack.  The package also comes with a 6.33mm adaptor which supports larger headphone jacks. After months of anticipation and rumored released dates that turned out be false, we finally got our hands on the Sennheiser MX W1 wireless earphones.  Available all throughout Europe, perhaps you’ve got your hands on a set too.  If not, check out the review to see if the MX W1 was worth the wait.

The Bluetooth Beat Down

Sennheiser proudly boasts the fact that the MX W1 is the very first true wireless earphones.  And while there is always some distinction between brands of earphones in the way of style and appearance, the major difference here is between technologies: Bluetooth and Kleer.  Unlike the average set of headphones, the MX W1 uses a robust 2.4GHz frequency band to transmit audio to each earplug.  This provides crisp, clear reproduction on your MP3 player that blows the limited bandwidth of Bluetooth out of the water. Sennheiser is a company that seems to rarely get the spotlight they deserve, despite the fact that they are constantly developing high quality products. In fact, they have been going strong for decades, capitalizing on technology and bringing us some of the most innovative products on the market.  Although we are most certainly not a Sennheiser spokesperson, the acclaim is well deserved.  Even with their low-key image, Sennheiser is still probably the first name that comes to mind when thinking of a company that produces high-end audio products.  Sure, their lineup will set you back a few euros, but anyone familiar with the brand can tell you that it is usually well worth the price.  This brings us to the PXC 450, a set of noise-cancelling headphones that pack a hefty price and a high performance punch to match. You’ve just set up your new home phone (which claims to be a long range cordless), hoping the range issue you’ve always had with your old set, will disappear and you’ll now be able to use your phone in all the places you couldn’t before. Much to your disappointment, the range is still the same. The good news is, there is a solution to this. It’s not very cheap, but unlike the false promises made by some products, this actually works and will as a guide, double your range. But let’s start with the basics. Continue reading »
