About BT

BT or British Telecommunications is the publicly listed holding company for an integrated group of companies that provide local, national and international telecommunications services, broadband and Internet products and services, and IT solutions to the UK market and 30 other countries worldwide. The company operates under three core divisions: BT Retail, BT Wholesale and BT Global Services.

The Retail business supplies exchange lines and the leasing of private circuits and other private services. The Wholesale operation is responsible for network services and solutions to communications companies, including fixed and mobile network operators, internet service providers and other service providers. Lastly, the Global Services division handles the networked IT services, outsourcing and systems integration work to corporations and fixed network operations.

BT is a market leader in the consumer telecommunications product division as it supplies over 20 million customers with a wide range of communications products and services. It is also the only UK telecoms operator with a Universal Service Obligation (USO) which requires the company to provide a fixed telephone line to any address in the UK and to install public call boxes.
