Siemens Gigaset E45 Additional Handset

Good simple set up, well designed units. Handbook reasonably simple to understand. Many functions, as you would expect of Siemens, albeit they are not the cheapest.

This Siemens DECT cordless phone works well as an additional handset to a S455 base station with answer phone. All the features are compatible with the normal S45 handsets, plus it is in a more rugged case which is splashproof and dustproof. Not the cheapest, but great features including internal intercom (named handsets) smart answerphone handling, handsfree and plenty of memory. The handset charging cradle is not fully interchangeable because the phones are a slightly different shape, so S45 and E45 must be returned to their own chargers. Battery life is fine.

I have to complaints about this phone. Have had it for two days. It promises many things and it delivers. The coloured screen has good resolution. Shock resistance is good, I accidentally dropped it from my drafting table (about 80cm high) to the stone floor and it stayed intact. The interface is straightforward so if you’re like myself and have never used a siemens before, you get used to it quickly.
Other good things about this phone: the large memory capacity (I work from home and I can store all my business contacts); the monitoring function (I have an infant daughter and I can get work done without worrying about her); and the handsfree (I can draft while taking a call). My wife didn’t like the colour at first, but she was eventually won over. A lot of friends complimented her about how good-looking it was. Another good thing is that I got the best price from this site. What I don’t like about this phone? I would have wanted a variety of ring tones to choose from, to match its mobile phone looks.

I have two very rowdy little boys who’ve already wrecked our previous gigaset handset. When I was reading the description, I was a bit skeptical. Sure, it’s shock-proof, but could it go up against my boys and their ‘adventures’? But I went ahead and bought it anyway because we needed a phone already.
It got here in just a day (thanks ligo! great service!) and it’s been with us a week. It works well. My boys have been tossing it around and playing around with it like anything and it doesn’t have a scratch on it yet. The finish really delivers on the ‘dustproof’ claim, and is elegant enough to impress the neighbors. The younger boy’s spilled juice on it already, and after a spot of wiping, it was good as new. The downside is that the intercom/room monitoring feature is a bit more complicated than I had expected, and will only work with other handsets of the same model. One will have to buy more E45s to get the monitoring system set up and that can be a bit expensive. I don’t know if I’ll try that feature, the boys are starting to get too old for that.
