The Speakerphone element can be switched on and off as much as you like during a call.
As for price you get what you pay for, if the cost of the 6set was too much maybe he/she would have been more comfortable with 5...

We are delighted with our BT Diverse 6450 Sextet. We live in a tall 6-bedroom town house and really need 6 handsets to function as landlines and also as internal intercoms. This product is a vast improvement on our previous phone system - very clear and easy to hear, good volume control, nice display on each phone. Very useful to have a sim card reader, so we have been able to quickly download contacts from our mobile phones on to the main handset, then transmit the phone book round to all the other handsets.
Very pleased we chose this.

Excellent phone and very easy to setup and use
My only criticism is that there is no system built-in to reduce the light intesity from the screen and red ON light at night when plugged in at the bed side.
It could do with an automatic dimmer for those who do not want a nite light.

Loads of features yet simple and easy to learn and use. Worth the investment over the cheaper model I had before.

Installation was very simple and straight forward. Registration of the handsets was very intuitive. The range is very good and with six phones I don't need a repeater. Sound quality is excellent. Speakephone is off each handset, but the quality of the reception is slightly uneven. Slight set back is that the speakerphone must be switched into mode in advance of the call and cannot be switched on during the call itself. The intercom works well, and you can poll all the handsets at once or pick the one you want to talk to from the menu. The ringer can be configured separately for intercom calls and outside calls and additionally each handset can be configured separately for ring tone. There is a defect on the base ringer which rings both tunes simultaneously when a call comes in from outside. The colour screen is visible in all lighting conditions, although the selection of screen images could be broader. I recommend it highly although its price is on the high side.

Top Notch - love the headset although my wife things it looks too camp: ;-). No instructions how to register th headset with the phone though. Had to search online in the end. In summary a good product.

Works exactly as expected. Excellent range and quality and a doddle to set up. Headset is a real bonus. Only minor quirk is that I could only upload something like 8 pictures before the phones ran out of memory, and those pictures are obscured with the callout box containing the callers name when I get an incoming call. Think I can live with that though!

Parcel arrived very promptly and worked right away! and the biggest bonus the instructions were in fairly plain English, even I could work out how to put numbers in my
phone book, first time ever. I dont suppose I shall ever learn how to use all the clever bits but as I'm of a generation that wants a phone to be a phone I am quite happy. The second handset is very useful as I can have it permanently along side my chair or take it around the garden, and the ring is nice and loud! Glad I stuck to BT, thanks

Fantastic pair of Items that work very well together. Only slight problem was pairing them up, but once achieved all was well.
