iDect X3i - pretty, but doesn't perform the most basic task required of a phone!

Good points
Looks great. Good price.
Bad points Microphone unable to pick up some voices *at all*!!! Other thoughts I foolishly chose these phones while browsing a high street store. They looked great and were an incredibly low price. The choice seemed to be a no-brainer. However, a fatal flaw soon became apparent after buying. The phones would not pick up my voice! Now I'm the first to admit I don't have the clearest voice - being fairly deep and quiet - but I can be understood on most phones. Sadly not true on the X3i. One handset would not pick up my voice even if I yelled into the microphone. The other 2 would work intermittently but I was told my voice kept breaking up. Women's voices seem to work fine, but men may find these phones useless. On top of this one handset stopped working (wouldn't power up) and another had a failed battery. Swapping the battery left me with 2 out of 3 phones working, but neither of use to me as nobody can hear me on them. I recently bought a some Siemens Gigaset phones (SL565 and C475) to replace the X3is. They are vastly superior. Where the X3is are style over substance, the Gigasets have more features and work properly, they just ooze quality. Finally I have cordless phones that actually work as phones instead of being pretty house decorations! And the amazing thing is that the C475 is currently cheaper than the X3i. Go for the X3is if you must, I still think they look great, being delightfully small and attractive, but I suggest you test them thoroughly. Use the intercom feature as a test, make sure any men who are going to use the phones can be heard!

I've had this phone for 3 weeks and already one of the handset batteries has failed - and the phone was VERY hot. Not even an easily replaced battery either. Not really good enough
