SIEMENS GIGASET E455 TWIN SIM DECT PHONE REVIEW
Originally purchased MagicBox DECT phone. Had to return as the reception as very poor. Read a good review in the Sunday Times on the Siemens Gigaset. Very pleased - easy to set up; transferred phone numbers from mobile phone SIM card; good reception; clear sound. Internal call feature useful for ordering a gin & tonic while in the garden, though still waiting for my husband to bring it! Perfect everyday phone.
Regards Fiona We had BT phones in the past but they were always a bit flimsy and prone to only lasting 5 mins. Then we saw the Siemens E455 and read its description, also saw reviews telling us how great they were so decided to give them a try.
We have had them for 2 weeks now and they are brilliant, just what it says on the box, robust, sturdy and easy to use. Definitely kid proof, even our 6 year old hasn't worked out the key lock yet. Only small problem was getting the sim card reader to work, was a bit tempremental but got it working in the end. Yes, they cost a bit more than other phones but with all the features and how well made they seem to be you can't argue. I'd rather pay more for these phones and them last than a few quid less for a BT one or similar for it to break just after the 12 month guarantee runs out :) Regards K Francomb This is a great package with big savings and not to mention free delivery from ligo. It has all the essential features that my wife and I need, particularly the SIM reader function, SMS, and answerphone. The extras are good as well, we make use of the baby monitor frequently to good results. It’s easy to set up the base station (it just needs to be connected to the mains and to the telephone line) and registering the handsets to the base was easier than expected (few steps and clear instructions in the manual). The dust- and splash-proof finish is the best extra on this phone, perfect for families with young children like mine.
Regards Warren Hudson Really easy to set up, ability to copy directories from one phone to another is really useful and simple to do.
Best multi unit cordless I have seem Highly recommended Regards Mr. Jonathan Hawkins just what I need it for a clear sound
Regards Mr. h lee Hi ,
I just purchased the Siemens E455. I returned one of the handsets as I thought the screen was scratched but it was a protective plastic film which I had not noticed. I sent it back to Ligo, They were great and sent it back within a couple of days:no charge! As regards the phone: 1 I have seen one comment about the feel of the keys. I did find them a little awkward initially but I soon got used to them. It is a bit like using a slightly larger style mobile phone. 2 The ringtones are a bit odd but there is an old style phone ring that I am happy with. 3 The SIM card reader was a bit awkward to use. Firstly make sure you copy your mobile numbers to your sim card! As someone else pointed out, set your area code to 0 in bottom RHS and the rest of your area code in the LHS.when setting the phone up. I only managed to get 100 numbers transferred. ..I do not know why as the memory was showing that the phone had 50 entries left. It still saved a lot of work though. I also added H,W,or M after the persons name after the transfer to make it easy to go directly to home, work etc.as it did not store the numbers in quite the same way as my moble. You can also go to a letter of the alphabet directly without the need to scroll through. 4 I have not used the SMS yet but I did think the predictive text was not quite as sure footed as my Sony Erikson…once again you get used to it. 5 I like the simple styling and the rubberised feel of the edges make it positive to hold. 6 The Sender box is a separate unit which means you can place the phones anywhere. 7 The reception is excellent and the sound clear. (I have no way of comparing as this is my first cordless but it works well for me) 8 I like the fact that you can turn off the display light when it’s in its cradle. 9 Although it needs some assembly it really is only a matter of putting in a battery and clipping the back cover into place. 10 I agree with others comments about the manual. It lacks a logical flow but the info is generally in there…somewhere. (I wonder if this was a result of it perhaps being in another language initially?) Overall although they take a little bit of time to set up I would recommend these phones and Ligo was an excellent choice of vendor. Every time I have called I got through to a helpful member of staff quickly. All the best Dave Regards Dave,Bristol I have needed a telephone which would work in an outhouse, given both the house and the outhouse have walls over a foot thick. This works exceptionally well. I was prompted to buy by a person who had an old house with thick walls. It was not with confidence that I bought it but it has proved a brilliant solution.
Regards Mr. Garry McClellan These may not be the cheapest phones available but they are worth the extra expence. Audio quality is second to none. The handsets have a good solid feel to them. Dead easy to set up.
I only knocked off one star because they could ring a bit louder! Regards Mark The handsets have to partly assembled when they first arrive which took me by surpise but was very simple. They operate quite like a mobile phone i.e.hold down 1 to hear your voicemail, press the speaker icon to go hands free, etc. Best thing about the system is the range, we live in a 17th cetury farmhouse where the previous Philips system could not cope with 1.2m thick walls but the Gigaset E455 has no problem and clearly shows the signal strength obtained, we are not getting less than 3 out of 5 pips even when 50 metres from the base unit through thick walls. The software is a little slower than I have heard from other systems in putting your call through, that's to say the beeps are slightly leisurely, but you get used to that and its no biggy. The sim reader function I did use for my handset so I have all my frequently used numbers on both my mobile and the E455, no one else in the family has bothered though and I think this may be a little used function for us at least. One thing we do use all the time is sending a text from your E45 handset just like you do on your mobile. Overall an excellent buy, we are very pleased.
Regards Mr. Phillip Middleton Excellent set of phone, very pleased. More expensive than most, but better build and an easy to use menu system.
Regards ST Just the system we wanted, easy to use and looks smart
Regards M Pleased with this product so far. Particularly
Nice, robust feel to the handsets SIM card reader a good function Good clear sound Nice choice of rings and ring volumes I like the fact that the base station is separate from docked handsets, esp as my line comes into a room where I just don't need a separate handset. Why don't more cordless phones do this? Really nice big clock on face of handset when docked - can read it across a room Otherwise just nice, logical functions. Does what it says on the tin. Regards M Clarke Having used previous Dect phones from Phillips and Samsung, all of which are now in the bin, it is worth knowing that these phones from Siemens work as you might hope - they are easy to use (worth spending a little time over setting them up), you can hear the caller and be heard clearly (always helps with a phone), and they have some clever touches. They are not the cheapest, but they are worth paying the extra for.
Regards Andrew An excellent robust cordless phone, ideal for home and home/office use.Easy to use with lots of useful features, particularly the SIM card reader and facility to copy numbers to other extensions. The range is also impressive, using in the garden and garage is no problem. Not the cheapest but worth the extra outlay.
Regards graham Delighted with this product. Handy hint how to format your UK area codes for sim transfer, International code [00] in top left box then [44] in top right box. National code [0] in bottom left box then [your national code without the first 0] in bottom right box,Enjoy Bill Morris
Regards Mr. Bill Morris The Siemens Gigaset E455 is a great phone - easy to set up and very straight forward to use. The handset buttons for adding names and numbers to the contacts list, etc is very intuitive. My only slight criticism is that the handsets are somewhat lacking in style and a bit chunky. That said, they seem solid and reliable. The battery life is great and it's clearly worth spending the time to charge, drain fully and then charge again. This takes several days....
The service from Ligo Electronics has been faultless. Martyn Regards Martyn This phone has a good solid feel to it but also looks great. Easy to set up too.
Regards Barry Really happy with this product the SIM facility is very useful.
Regards zahir Fab Phone+++ Easy to use although I admit I had to read the manual to get the second E455 handset to connect to the base station! I also managed to connect my old DECT Panasonic handsets which the E455's where purchased to replace as the base station for my older Panasonic's stopped working properly and now works only as a charger! Great sound, range and functionality. The only minor comments I'd make are that the interface is very slow to respond, the key pad is a bit tricky, you have to make sure you press the keys exactly and firmly (not causally as you may on other phones) and the SIM card reader does not work with my 3G SIM but I can live with that. Delivery wasn't 'next day' as promised by the sales guy I spoke too before I made my purchase on-line, but it came the day after which was OK.
Overall - I'm very happy with the E455, much better build quality than my Panasonics and so I would recommend this phone to anyone looking for a first or replacement/upgrade DECT phone and I'm happy to recommend Ligo as a supplier also. Regards Mr. Jaime Neail This is the fourth hands free set-up that we have had in this house, and by far the best. It has a better range, more functions and makes things easier to hear than previous versions. However the volume remains stubbornly low, and for older folk like us this is a significant disadvantage. Why on earth couldn't they have provided the option of higher volumes to suit some people?
Regards Prof Peter Chapman Excellent cordless system simcard copying brilliant.SMS facility good but need to get to know it having used Nokia mobiles for many years. So many other features similar to mobiles make it the best cordless fone I have ever used
Regards Barrie Only 1 downfall that is the quality of the speaker phone & warning for low battery is hardly audible. Rest of qualities are spot on.
Regards Linda Good product with crystal clear speach. Far better than my previous BT phone.
Regards Steve Fantastic piece of kit, easy to use and the sound quality is excellent, after a number of years using Panasonic phones I have to say that Siemens is the next step up in quality and performance. Also praise where praise is due the service by ligo was quick and informative, a 1st class company to deal with.
Regards Mr. John Wearmouth Feels robust & will stand up to the abuse our 4 & 6 year old will subject them too, crystal clear sound - speaker phone good too, plus handy that the base station can be placed separately from the phones themselves (although it's not very big anyway). Packaging arrived damamged but the phones inside the box were fine. Overall glad I purchased - delivery was prompt too.
Regards Gerard This was the fourth cordless phone purchased for a property with very thick walls and stone floors, and the only one that has worked consistantly and clearly anywhere in the building. They also worked well outside. The phones are resilient against being dropped, rain resistant and reasonably intuitive. The only drag being the SIM transfer process, which was bettered by BT phones.
Regards Mr. Joshua Brown I purchased this bundle to use in my dental practice and my secretary and I have been satisfied thus far with its performance. The sim card reader is useful for our keeping track of our patients, and the answering machine (though the sound quality is just above average) works well for our purposes. The keys are a bit difficult to press especially when one has got surgical gloves on (as I had learned). The handsets themselves aren’t too plastic-like and seem sturdy enough, haven’t had any mishaps for us to tell if they’re really as durable as siemens claims. The savings that I made with this purchase were significant as well for me—liGo does give good deals for businesses, even for those as small as mine.
Regards Ed Townsend What’s great about this phone is that the base station box/answer phone is separate from the handsets and their chargers. You can keep the base station in an unobtrusive place and the handsets can go to another room. The range is pretty much as advertised. Sound quality on the handset is good, while on the speaker phone it’s passable but could be significantly better. They’ve taken quite a few knocks about the house and some milk spills and they’re working fine, siemens lives up to their shock- and splash-proof claim. The keys could be somewhat larger, though. A good set that we’re satisfied with. Delivery and service from ligo was superb.
Regards Brian Davison I’ve been a using siemens phones for two years now and have never been disappointed yet. This was my latest purchase for use at my small surgery. The answer phone is easy to set up and is the most useful feature for my purposes. The sim card reader on the base unit is also a good feature as the secretary can now send SMS messages to my patients’ numbers stored on my mobile.
