Good points
Excellent build Quality, A solid metal frame phone that is a very nice slim design
Bad points None that i can fnd. Other thoughts The first thing that i will say about the SL400 phones is that they are not cheap, after having numerous BT branded phones (that were of dubious quality) and a few Binatone phones(that were even worse) over the last few years i thought it was time to bite the bullet and splash out on what i can only describe as one of the best phones i have ever seen or used. The first thing that you notice about the phones as you unpack them is the weight and build quality, they comprise of a nice chromium plated solid metal frame and a metal keypad similar to the laser cut key pads of the Motorola Razr. The batteries install easily and are of the flat lithium-ion type you find in mobile phones. Once the batteries are installed and the shiny black back is clipped on you realise that all that chrome and shiny black is going to show up all the fingerprints. Belt clips are supplied as an option if you want to use them and do not really detract from the overall design of the phone. Once the screen bursts into life the display quality is excellent and is as good as or better than some mobile phone displays. The phone cradles are also well made with a removable power connector that clips into the base. The cradles/charging stations did initially seem rather light but once the handsets are dropped in they appear to be stable and the rubber feet stop them from slipping. The answer phone base unit again was a surprise the size is quite minute compared to some, the unit can be wall mounted and is also supplied with a rather nice clip on back that holds the power connector and telephone cable in place. Once plugged in the handsets registered with no problems. Setting up the phones was a doddle, the use of the Bluetooth made it possible to transfer my entire directory from my Sony-Ericsson to the one handset, the directory was then copied to the additional handsets using the copy facility. The layout of the menu was simple and similar to that of a mobile phone. It's too soon to comment on the standby battery life as the manual states 230 hours although this will only be achievable after a few charge discharge cycles. Having only really used the most basic features of the phones and answering machine i am totally impressed and wish i had brought a decent set of Siemens phones instead of all the cheaper models. As these phones come with a two year guarantee Siemens have covered all the bases. So if anyone is thinking of getting a set of the SL400 phones all i can say is go ahead, i don't think you will be disappointed and in many ways, you get what you pay for. On a final note the service from LiGo was excellent. John Spiler

Good points
You can send contacts from one phone to the other. And you can add your own rings tone using a data cable and software you can download from the manufacturer of the phone. You can also can add photos to contacts so when they call you there photo will appear. The screen is a good size as well. The phone is a comfortable size to hold in hand. And it has blue-tooth, the phone also vibrates if the phone is on silent. I Would highly recommend this phone.
Bad points Cannot think of any. Other thoughts A little more room on phone for adding more of your own ring tones and photos.

Good points
Design, Small Footprint, Ease of use and setup, Ring-tone options, and the other half loves it....
Bad points None as yet! Other thoughts Very nice phone. A bit pricey but I guess you get what you pay for. I would recommend this phone for anybody who wants a full featured phone, that once setup, will provide an elegant solution to any home or office. Very pleased. It pays to do your research. And purchasing from ligo was a breeze. Great service and delivery

Good points
Build quality, ease-of-use, style, fits nicely in the hand, far superior to any other make of phone
Bad points Not cheap! Other thoughts I have a good eye for design and this is by far and away the best land line phone on the market.

Good points
Quality of build and feel. Easy to set up and easy to use.
Bad points None. Other thoughts I looked at all of the quality handsets on the market to replace the panasonic handsets I have used for about 4 years. The SL400A is certainly expensive, but looking at the quality of build, finish and features it's well worth the outlay. I initially purchased a Quad set and added a Twin set both from Ligo, best price on this product by some way. Good service all round.

Looks terrific and feels good
Bad points Can’t copy settings across multiple handsets, pricey Other thoughts Excellent though this phone may be I don’t think it’s worth three times as much as a good Panasonic but that’s probably because I value function over form. If style is your thing then go for it because it is, nonetheless, a very good phone. Also, if your household is going to have one handset per user, then each user can set their handsets up to their individual likings. We wanted one handset per room and to have all the handsets the same. There is no way to just set up one handset with pictures and tones – ‘Joy to the World’ for the wife, 'Chopin’s Funeral March' for the mother-in-law and so on – and then copy them to all the other handsets. Even the PC software won’t do it. I checked with Siemens customer services and they confirmed this shortcoming. Some of the other functions are a bit difficult to find too. If both of you want to speak to a caller using two handsets (a pretty normal and frequent occurrence I would have thought) then it can’t be done, at least not straight out of the box. The manual doesn’t illuminate matters either. You have to download the extended manual from the Siemens website and even then it isn’t obvious, and necessitated another email to Siemens (who are very good by the way). It’s called ‘listening in’ and it’s in the ‘telephony’ menu. I can’t imagine how I managed to miss that gem! Overall I’m glad we bought it; it's probably is the best landline phone we’ve had but the price premium over a ‘lesser’ phone is a bit difficult to justify.

Beautiful piece of technology
Good software support Actually works as intended Pretty good sound quality Lithium Ion battery packs Eco mode (apparently) - but Eco+ Mode is not supported by these handsets Bad points More features than I will realistically use, but I loved the looks Fingerprint magnet Very expensive Other thoughts It's well put together and doesn't look like a big kids phone, which appears to be the design of most DECT phones.

Excellent design and build quality, it may be expensive but you can feel the difference compared to its cheaper siblings. Battery life is outstanding (several days) and recharging takes just a few hours. Basic set up can be completed without reading the instructions, consult the book and you'll be using more of features.
Bad points Its hard to see what else you'd want these phones to do. Other thoughts The clock face showing when the phone isn't in use is a nice touch, much easier to read than digital readouts on other appliances.

These phones are the best I have ever used. My flat has thick walls and before we had Siemens Gigaset, there was endless snap crackle and pop.
My son has just purchased a quad set as he was so impressed. i wholeheartedly recommend the Siemens Gigaset SL400A Bad points None that I can think of.

I like almost everything about this phone. Sound quality and range are excellent and setting up address book was easy. Build quality and styling are excellent.
Bad points It is expensive (especially with 4 handsets!) but I think you get what you pay for - quality! I would have preferred to be able to search names by either first or surnames. I have also had trouble in downloading the gigaset software onto my computer. Other thoughts Over the years I have bought several cordless phones - some good, some not so good! This is, by far, the best of the bunch. It oozes quality and style. |
