There is almost always something to be said for the traditional, the customary, the known—which is exactly why a number of people still prefer them over new, innovative systems no matter how convenient or faster or handy the newer ones seem. Though faithfulness is a commendable emotion, in a number of cases, just like this one, the loyalty is undeniably out of place. The phones we know and grew up with are gradually being supplanted by VoIP phones that though may look and feel the same, are not. It’s only a matter of time before we too get caught up in the invasion. Though, of course, the encounter need not be fraught with dread and suspicion. All that is needed is for someone to put a bit of shine on a number of essential facts and the matter is bound to get straightened out in no time, in no time at all.

One of the strongest credentials that VoIP phones possess resides in this item: the gateway. Though the term itself conjures up notions of paths and passageways, the gateway assumes no such grandiose responsibilities. But it does, in a manner of speaking, affect a speedier exchange of data in the network by converting information from one form to another.

Still find yourself scratching your head over the thought of having anything to do with such an object? Let me shine a bit of light onto the matter.

VoIP Phones: Unwieldy beasts or not?

The twenty-first century will demand more and more of our time than any other century before it. Carrying out a number of responsibilities and taking on several roles at once coupled with all the potential lot of troubles and usual round of frustrations that living in such a complex and fast-paced world bring, all these are certain to take their toll on us, unless we adapt, unless we evolve and expand our personal as well as professional capabilities to accommodate them. Only then will it seem possible for us to manage all our affairs with aplomb, to still keep juggling all the balls that matter high up in the air.

But most people have a problem with this notion. For some, technology is the enemy, the coming anti-christ, the bane of urban existence.Anything that advances technological dependence is an instrument of evil and must therefore be avoided. Reasons for this run gamut: straight-out refusal, a strange bias against techie devices and systems, simple laziness and others. But the most common among them all is ornery stubbornness. Most people have a tendency to keep to only what they know as opposed to learning anything else because it’s convenient. Never mind if it’s not too flexible or that it’s restrictive. It’s familiar and that what counts. The different always inspires fear and spawns feverish perceptions of doubtful utility.

Most people entertain these thoughts the first time they hear VoIP.

Giving Meaning to VoIP

As always, for those whose association with VoIP does not extend beyond the superficial yet, a re-education of terms is in order. If you are still trying to learn your way around the unfamiliar terrain of phones with VoIP or voice over Internet protocol, it helps to obtain a clear handle on the definitions of the terminologies that often get flung around. After all, different fields each tend to develop particular discourses composed chiefly of jargons that describe or refer to an item or procedure particular to the subject. For a lot of first-time VoIP clients, this is often at the crux of the problem since these terms, when left undefined, serve to baffle and discourage potential VoIP users. Having to get oneself used to an unfamiliar system is difficult enough without anything else adding to it—having to do all that while confronting odd, peculiar sounding techie-terminologies that have all the familiarity of a weird alien language just about caps it for a lot of people.

The first response, then, is almost always defined by a strain of resistance. Articles that have a number of jargons casually tossed around give the impression of being too exclusive, as though the information contained within is limited to the very few who happen to be utter experts in the field, leaving no place for the amateur and the all-too-willing beginner.

Which is why knowing what the words mean counts for a lot.

Identifying Key Points of the VoIP Program

The inherent structure that the current VoIP software utilizes is modular in nature, which is to say it has sections—or compartments, you could say. Now, each of its major functions has an anchor positioned in the gateway. The anchor makes it extremely easy to organize and identify the line of program functions in a convenient and fitting arrangement. This keen eye for organization makes this system distinctive since not only does it allow for effortless access and identification, the system is also designed in a manner that allows each individual software function absolute control over specific and corresponding portions of the system.

By letting each section handle itself, minor glitches and flaws don’t always have to necessarily involve the entire program, but only a few afflicted areas, thereby lessening chances of complete system failure. The program, judging from each and every possible regard, certainly proves itself to be a wonder of compartmentalizing.

Defeat those Cables, Unbind those Cords

There is always a lot to be said for keeping to the charms of the old and the traditional. When the matter has to do with the kind of communication device protocol you use, this means the service that phone companies provide you with.

The kind of structure that phone companies have devised for their communication lines are built on multitudes of cable connections. Why is this so? The simple fact is that every time you call someone up, your call travels through miles and miles of wires, passing countless central stations as it goes, until it reaches the exact location of the person you are calling. It cuts through the distance for you, basically.

Yes, the system is pretty effective. And fast. But it can go faster. In this world, nothing is foolproof against change, against continuous innovation. Technology is a relentless force and it knows no other way than forward. SIP or Session Initiation Protocol for phones is one such result of the kind of innovation possible when technology evolves and expands.

Introducing VoIP: Make Way for Technological Refinement

Conventional wisdom states that if it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it—which must make up the basic reasoning of more than a considerable number of individuals in numerous countries out there who use traditional phone lines in their day-to-day communications and interactions. You may be one of them. After all, traditional phone telecommunication means satisfy your needs. It connects you to your relatives who inhabit the outskirts of Timbunktu with only minimal audio distortions in your conversations—what’s a few missing words here and there between family, anyway—and very few happenstance breaks in the connection?

The entire point basically boils down to this: it gets the job done. Sometimes, that’s all you can ever ask from your phone. To do the job and to do it right. Thus, so long as it keeps you connected, discernible sound distortions or not, you end every day on a relieved note of forgiveness for these little flaws. And even when you proceed to turn in for the night, just before you close your eyes, you cheer yourself up with the belief that you’ve got a great system going for you.

But what if you could have that degree of connection without the distortions? Yep, zero level distortion, with fewer chances of breaks in the connection? Improvement always sounds good after all but that’s not the clincher. What if, unlike traditional telecommunication lines, you could use the service free of any charge?

Welcome to the world of voice over internet protocol, a.k.a. VoIP.

Convergent Trinity: the IDECT X1 TRIO

The 20th century was the heyday of passive consumer items for the communications industry. Phone units installed a number of in offices and homes were intended only for one specific task: receiving and returning calls. On all fronts, the apparent relation between phone—corded in those days—and individual was confined to this level, to this function. So that using a phone must have been a pretty tame affair. It wasn’t until the 21st century, with the leaps and bounds it was already taking in several fields that exciting innovations in the field were introduced to the public, with cordless technology being at the forefront of them. These phones, unlike its predecessors, had the advantage of being multi-interactive, so that instead of performing one sole function, these machines would be able to do a couple more, simultaneously. This accounted for the quick way they managed to nudge traditional phones to the sidelines. Functionality with flexibility became the definitive aim in the industry.

And though many failed to strike a perfect balance between the two, a few like the Idect X1 Trio were impressive in the versatility and smooth operations they displayed. The Idect X1 Trio though, is a bit more praiseworthy than most
