Snom Technology AG, one of the leading providers for Voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephones in the marketplace, introduced the launch of its XML contest, “eXtreMeLy snomlified!” quite recently. The contest, beginning from the fourth of September, is expected to run until the twenty-second of October. The contest is principally designed to offer a challenge to the talented, bright minds of the VoIP programmer community. It is also being regarded as an effective way for Snom partners to develop XML-Minibrowser applications for the snom 3xx series of phones that will prove ultimately new and exciting.

The Snom 3xx series of cordless phones—this includes the Snom 300, Snom 320, Snom 360 and Snom 370—has a XML-Minibrowser that is permanent. Thus, the XML contest not only made it possible to find working data screens that provided the ideal environment for a number of Snom 3xx series telephones. In addition, it also granted the kind of momentum and encouragement—not to mention energy—to programmers who were more or less relatively unknown and who remained undiscovered in the community, operating in relative obscurity.

“This contest is an exciting approach to bridging the gap between the enterprise and grassroots programmers,” Michael Knieling, who is the CFO and executive vice president of marketing and sales for Snom, says. “We look forward to witnessing the innovative and cutting-edge applications the VoIP community has to offer our legacy IP phone se-ries.” It certainly seems that exciting times lie ahead for adepts of VoIP DECT phone technologies.

Contestants are given a choice to submit in either of these two categories: Business Application or Lifestyle Application. The considerable run of factors that have to be taken into account upon the selection of winners include the number of Snom VoIP phone models for which the applications are installed and configured to. The matter also involved scrutiny of the size of application along with numerous technical aspects. Of course, efficiency, practicality and creativity are the three main characteristics to look for.

Among the prizes that lucky souls may win include a Snom 370 cordless phone—this one comes with an invitation to either Fall VON Boston 2007 or SIMO Madrid 2007. For anyone who has ever dreamed a career in communications, this offer is certainly a glorious boon. Others may also expect an Epygi Quadro2x, bound to be sponsored by Epygi, for those coming in second for Business Applications while folks over at the Lifestyle Application may anticipate the thrill of owning a MOBOTIX camera M22M-Sec-D22, this one sponsored by ABP Technology. In addition, prizes also run to a Snom 370 telephone—this time, the cordless phone comes equipped with a brand new Snom Wireless VoIP Headset Adapter box as well as a wireless headset provided by either GN or Plantronics. That’s a VoIP Headset for Internet telephony and a wireless headset perfect for music sessions in one package, an extremely nifty surprise for any audiophile in this day and age.
