In the cornucopia of modern day gadgets, one of the most welcome equipments for any audiophile is the headset. But make no mistake about it, these headgears, wireless or corded though they may be, are shaping up as one of the most essential components in virtual technology.

Yes, the stuff of pot-boiled science fiction, it may be but with the continued research done at institutions like the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, such a technology does not seem to be too far off. Headsets that exhibit a comfortably sizeable viewable area along with image supports that display high resolutions for visualization purposes are becoming all the rage. When—not if—this becomes a trend in mainstream headset designs, consumers can expect not only to be able to listen as well as talk through their headsets—this being the most usual headgear technologies offered by such devices as Bluetooth headsets that Sennheiser, Plantronics, Jabra and all the other notable names in the industry are producing at the moment—consumers may well be able to afford a bit of visual gaming pleasure along with them.

Considering the information currently available to us, the likely fusion of audio and visual services is bound to take us on a delightfully wonderful new experience of reality. Imagine that, dimensionality will no longer be a permanent fixture of the physical since virtual technology will serve to confuse definitions of what is real and not real. Yes, it’s a matrix thing.

To attest to the growing partiality for great audio equipment among consumers, headset and phone packages are now available as well. And as we all know, there is nothing like a package deal to declare consumer product appeal to the public, is there?

Then there is the special breed of headsets to which Skype headsets—employed for Internet telephony—belong to.

Wherever the technology leads to, it’s a bit of certainty that headsets will definitely play a part in the mix. From what we are seeing right now, with our selections ranging from phone headsets that allow us to use headsets with cordless phone to computer headphones to a lot of others, companies will just keep turning in newer designs, and innovative models that are less bulkier and grander than the last.

Headsets, just like a number of current gadgets, are now evolving in ways that twenty or ten years ago were just the stuff of pinch-me moments for gadget crazy individuals. But then, I guess, therein lies the fun of the future: we can’t ever predict what may come, we can only draw up a few fantasies and see which ones may happen to come true—and when they do, then it becomes an exciting surprise the future gives us all to live with.
