The Actiontec Vosky Call Centre is a VoIP Call Centre that serves to bridge VoIP technology and traditional fixed line telecom. The Vosky Call Centre comes as a modem-like black box with three sockets: one that plugs into your home phone, another socket that links your phone to its original fixed line and one more socket that connects the Vosky Call Centre to your PC via USB. When installed, the Vosky Call Centre can forward Skype calls to your regular home phone. You can also place outgoing Skype calls using your home phone through the Call Centre.
The Actiontec Vosky Call Centre also allows you to call the Vosky system from another number; you can then enter the pass code and use the touchstone system. A voice prompt will guide you to dial a Skype contact and make a VoIP call. The Call Centre will even tell you if your Skype contacts are online.
The Vosky Call Centre works well in transferring Skype calls to a fixed line or forwarded to a mobile phone. However, using the Vosky to make an outgoing call can become a bit of a grind and you might end up just making a normal call especially if you don’t really need to avail of Skype’s exceptional rates. In terms of audio quality, calls made using the Vosky were not up to par with the best that Skype can offer. However, this has more to do with the quality of your standard phone equipment than the Vosky call Centre itself.
On the whole, the Vosky Call Centre unit performs satisfactorily especially in its main function of forwarding Skype calls to fixed landlines and mobile phones. Another advantage is that you can use your ordinary handset instead of headsets or your PC’s speakers. But, when Skype and other VoIP services start to offer call forwarding and call placement through a local call number, the Vosky Call Centre may not be necessary at all.
