About Polycom Founded in 1990, Polycom is an industry-leading end-to-end provider of Unified Collaborative Communications-converged voice, video, web, and data solutions for emerging broadband networks. Polycom was initially a research and development firm September 1992, when they began shipping their first voice communications product, the SoundStation. Come 1998, they completed the acquisition of ViaVideo Communications, Inc., or ViaVideo, a start-up company that designed and developed high quality, low cost, videoconferencing systems. At the same time they started to manufacture and distribute the ViewStation range of videoconferencing products that would underpin their success over the next 5 years. By 1999, they acquired Atlas Communications Engines, Inc., a private supplier of integrated access devices or IADs, and an emerging supplier of digital subscriber line, or DSL, routers. And in February 2001, they acquired Accord Networks Ltd., a leading provider of network products that enable Internet Protocol and other network voice and video communications. In October 2001, they completed the acquisition of rival VC manufacturer, PictureTel. With a commanding market share of 42% for video and 75% for voice according to a recent survey, their topnotch quality communications products are easy to deploy, manage, and use and deliver an experience as natural as being there. All of which translates into increased collaboration and productivity, greater flexibility, faster decisions, lower costs, and improved relationships.
