The vast array of quality audio equipment has established Sennheiser to be the reliable provider of headphones, microphones, telephony accessories, and avionics headsets.
The company was founded in 1945 by Professor Dr. Fritz Sennheiser in Wedemark, Germany. In 1982 he handed the management over to his son, Jörg Sennheiser. Since 1991, Jörg Sennheiser has been honorary professor and has held lectures on electroacoustics at the University of Hanover since 1981. From then on, Sennheiser has become synonymous with quality audio equipments like microphone technology, RF-wireless and infrared sound transmission, headphone transducer technology, and most recently, in the development of active noise-cancellation.
The company's most notable products are their large library of headphone products (including earbuds), which have a wide frequency response, most of which are offered from some other companies. Some of their headphones can be used for recording studios. While most of the company's headphones with price ranges of at least $100 USD are marketed towards audiophiles, their low-end headphones (under $20, mostly earbud models) have generally wide frequency responses (around 18Hz to 22KHz). Though these low-end products lack in extremes, they are suitable for portable audio devices, as are mostly all earbuds. They also make other plug-in audio devices such as microphones (both for the computer and high-end studio types), in-ears, wireless speakers and headphones, video game system add-ons for audio, and etc, but otherwise are well-known for their headphones.
