SIEMENS GIGASET S450 IP DECT SIP PHONE REVIEW
Fantastic phone. Fantastic service from Ligo.
Functionality of the phone is spot on, although it does feel plasticy in construction and very lightweight, so only time will test how good it really is. VOIP quality is amazing (I use sipgate.co.uk) - just as good as my BT line in fact. You need to be fairly technical to set one of these up as the manual is pretty poor, as is the Siemens website. You have to just try things out and you get there in the end! All in all, I am very pleased and will be ordering extra handsets (assuming Ligo start to stock them! hint hint!). 4 starts only as the user inteface on the phone could be much better and the build slightly heavier, but if you want a great IP phone that does landline calls as well, I don't think there is anything better at the moment. Regards Stuart Burgess These phones are the best DECT phones we've had. Very clear, although the handsfree could be a bit louder. Quite easy to set up, both for the landline and the VoIP. You can have 1 landline and two VoIP calls simultaneously. Works very well with Voipcheap (www.voipcheap.co.uk), both for sending and receiving calls and much easier than using a PC and headset. Transferring phone books between handsets is very handy. PC synchronisation is with tab separated files and works well. The display is very clear. Battery life is excellent. Handsets are quite chunky but feel well made and easy to hold. The separate base station is very useful - it can be wall-mounted near the network and phone lines, with the handsets and chargers wherever is convenient. Keypad is uncluttered. The intercom/call transfer/conference call is nice and easy to use. There's a giganet private network where you can call other Gigaset owners for free, which looks interesting. We just have to get the rest of the family to buy a Siemens phone as well.
Regards Stephen Had this phone for 9 months now. Tweaked things and discovered things that aren't in the manual. You can set 6 voip operators, if you have several incoming voip numbers you could assign them for use by different users so that when the phone rings is states who the call is for. Have managed to figure out how to dial via different voip providers without having to go to the PC first, set up the providers from the web config then append each number with #1 for provider 1, #2 for provider 2 etc etc, or simply set up dial plans via voxalot.com. There's simply no other phone out there that provides you with the options that the S450IP does, you can even combine it with the M34 USB adapter and use it for sykpe as well.
Regards Adam The item does what it states and after reading the manual managed to set it up if I can do it anyone can. Well worth the read first.
My only fault with the products is the time it keep reverting to Central European Time, other from that not a problem. Works well, I would spend some time adding the phonebook details. Regards Mr. Keith Dale Love it! great phone, superb internet telephony quality. I really like the 'dial plane', where by you can create your own 'least cost routing'. The negetive things for me are: the handset is too light and feel a bit 'plasticy' and the display does not show which provider is used for the call. But I will still give it 5 STARS.
Regards Shmuel This is a well made phone and in the couple of weeks since I had it the overall experience is very good. The positives are sleek design, easy configuration and SIP was a breeze to setup. I'm mostly using it as my work landline home at present but did try connecting to one of the free SIP provider and it works very well. On the negative side my biggest issue is the the keypad design. The keys somehow appear to be moulded together and a casual press just doesn't work. You have to really pay attention otherwise entering all the codes will take a few tries.
Regards Sanjay Great all round phone with excellent VOIP features and call clarity. You can register up to 6 different SIP providers. The only downside is as a single handset user, you can't select between the 6 providers from the handset to dial out. Only 1 provider is catered for at any one given time. Changing to a different provider to dial out has to be done manually through the web browser by the adjusting the base station settings. That means going to a PC and an added inconvenience. May be this can be addressed in a firmware update.
Regards David Great phone easy to use and set up. I use one VOIP provider for making calls and one to receive them and it was so easy to set up. I gave it 4 stars as the instruction book could be better but apart from that does what is says it will do.
Regards Keith Great, user friendly phone. Only complaint so far is that you can't pick up the receiver to see if there is a dial tone, or message waiting - you have to actually dial a number. Plenty of memory, battery lasts a good long time, phone can be set to silent, handsfree etc and reception is really good too.
