two serious drawbacks Anonymous 3/5

This review is mostly negative, but I am writing it because the DualPhone concept is so great and I hope the manufacturers will take note and make improvements. I find the Dualphone a great convenience and money-saver but it has some serious drawbacks. In order of importance:
1. The indoor range is very overrated. In fact, I'd call the 50m claimed on the packaging, either an outright lie or something that only applies to wooden houses or suchlike. I don't even get 10m in my ordinary brick house:- more than two walls in between and its useless. I haven't tested the outdoor range. My first cordless phone, a cheap Panasonic of some sort, claimed 30m and I could stand outside, in the street, on the other side of my house and still get crystal clear reception.
2. The typesetting on the buttons is hopelessly too small and tightly spaced. It is just about impossible to read in low light conditions and I imagine it would be just as hopeless for an older person under any lighting conditions. There is space on the buttons for the printing to be bigger. An interesting thing: the photographs on the internet and the packaging gave me the impression that the phone was bigger. I felt quite surprised and a little disappointed when I took it out of the box. I attribute this impression to the relative size of the numbering and I can't help wondering if it was one of those deliberate marketing ploys. If the type was bigger, it would have made the phone look small.
3. The colour display on the new DualPhone 3058 is OK and I certainly hope it does not die on me shortly after the warranty expires like the LCD on the DualPhone 3045. (This happened to both of mine and, I believe, to scores of other people.) Anyway, the display is small but nice and clear, as is the navigation system. The caller ID and call history display is very useful. The drawback is in the fact that the interface does not allow for the computer importing of contacts. This is a standard feature of any cell phone nowadays and I reckon the space for 100 contacts might have been useful if I had the time of day for the laborious process of entering them.

The latter is a minor gripe though, and is not a problem when dealing with Skype contacts. The first two are serious irritations and, combined with the bad experience I had with the 3045, would have me looking for an alternative brand next time. In the meantime, the DualPhone remains very useful and I am otherwise grateful for it.

DualPhone 3058 Anonymous 3/5

The installation was easy and the phone pretty much works as advertised. The problem with it is that it is simply too small for a desk phone. It is about the size of a mobile phone and the keys are very small and close together. For a desk phone you need something about twice as big. Size matters...

The installation disabled the PC speakers, but you can fix that in the skype setup. Having to type the country code before every skypeout number is a bit of a drag but not a showstopper.
